Thanks to recent medical interventions many of the young people who use Francis Lodge – our teenage and young adult respite facility – are now living into their twenties (even thirties). Whist this is good news for the young people, the care that they need falls in a large part on their parents. The stress that this places on families is great. Many parents become ill themselves and unable to give the care needed. Some parents develop heart and stress related conditions, others have cancer, and a significant number die before their poorly children.
