St Brendans Care Home in Crowthorne is an impressive, purpose-built home developed to a high specification across four levels. Situated at the end of the village’s charming high street, the home neighbours Wellington College, as well as the picturesque Chaucer Woodland.

We currently have two private nursing homes and a residential care home. A residential home is for people who just require assistance with day to day living and personal care. Nursing homes support people who have conditions that require clinical support from qualified nurses, Dementia, Alzheimer’s and diabetes to name but a few. Atkinsons Private Nursing Homes (APNH) was founded in 1977 by the late Mr. A.V. (Victor) Atkinson. The first of our current homes to be opened was Haldane House, followed by Longlea in 1989 and Fourways in 2006. Several other care homes were bought in between as the group expanded during the 1980s. In 1984, Victor met his future wife and business partner, a fellow care home owner called Moira McTeggart, to whom he sold a small care home, and therefore joined the family group. This partnership continued until 2001 when Victor asked me to assist him in the managing the rebuild of Longlea into a purpose built home. Although this was to be the last project we would work on together as father and son, having worked for him for 5 years previously, I was able to see first hand why my father had developed such a fine reputation as a care home proprietor. Victor died in 2002 shortly before the re-opening of Longlea but having set out it’s visionary future.

Our team is like a family and we all work together to provide the best service for our clients. The management team has worked together in the care industry for over 15 years and that solid foundation and wealth of experience is what allows us to operate in such a successful manner, providing an exceptional and reliable service.
