Carntyne has an outstanding situation in the centre of the attractive old market town of Hexham, overlooking the park and historic 7th century Abbey and grounds. The house has mature walled gardens of over an acre with two summer houses. It is within very easy walking distance of churches, shops, banks and the town Library and Arts centre. Our aim is to offer you the care you need in a happy and natural atmosphere where your individuality is respected. We feel that it is important that you retain a sense of freedom and control of your life as long as you can. We aim to create as homelike an environment as possible, where appropriate care is given in a way which preserves personal freedom and self determination

Close House was established in 1962 by John and Margaret Robson. Margaret, a Nursing Sister in Hexham Hospital discovered there were not any suitable places for elderly people to go after receiving hospital care. At the time Close House was the first Care Home to open in Northumberland, however it was the 2nd registered with Northumberland County Council. Opening as a single farmhouse, we have grown over the years to accommodate 22 elderly residents with nursing, residential and dementia needs. Close House continues to run in the Robson family today alongside a team of 30 excellent staff.
