Woodlands House Care & Nursing Home

If your loved one has dementia, I really would NOT recommend this place because not one member of staff are trained on how to deal with the challenging behaviour this condition can bring - staff mentioned this on more than one occasion! I was very disappointed with the care my dad received in the 5 months he was there. Prior to him moving in, we told them about his condition and his challenging behaviour and we were assured this would be fine but clearly this was not the case. Instead, their inability to understand his condition led to him becoming more and more aggressive, unresponsive to requests and losing a LOT of weight (as well as his top dentures). Whilst staff were polite to our faces, we could not help but think this was just a show due to the condition my dad was in whilst he was there. They claimed that my dad injured another resident in the home but no member of staff witnessed anything. He had a few falls during his time there (once he even had to go hospital because he had a cut to his head) and none of the falls were witnessed. Why is that? In the short time that my dad has left there, he has gained weight and is much calmer and responsive to being looked after. I seems to me that Woodlands is more suited to the elderly with no underlying conditions and it would not surprise me if this review ‘disappeared’!

DO NOT TOUCH THIS PLACE! Initially we were taken in by the look and feel of this place. Modern, light and airy rooms. Staff seemed friendly. Do NOT be fooled by this! Most staff were unhelpful, lazy and rude. No attempt was made to alter medication as needed (Mum was kept on 4 sachets of laxative daily), even though she clearly didn't need it. Distressing for Mum and us. Certain tablets were ticked off as given but weren't! Often Mum's teeth and hearing aid were not to be found, the latter of which was lost(£1,200)!! Communication was not forthcoming and we had to really badger them for any information. The whole experience still upsets me now, remembering how agitated Mum was the whole 3 weeks.

Excellent staff and day centre . My mum has been attending this centre for the last 18 months . Plenty of activities to do there including themed events . Great deal of choice of the food menu and the staff cannot be faulted . They are so friendly and accommodating I would highly recommend this centre .

I love this place my auntie is so happy there she loves all the activities they do, especially the music, all the staff are so kind & friendly my auntie is so well looked after thankyou to all the staff your doing a great job. Susan Walton neice of lillian creed.
